Smith County, Texas U. S. Census Index
& 1880 Mortality Schedule
The 1880 Smith County Census Index contains Surnames, Given Names, and Ages for heads of households, and Page/Image Numbers. Most published indexes for the 1880 census only contain entries for households that had children who were 10 years of age or younger. However, this publication contains an index entry for all households on the 1880 Smith County census. The information can be used to locate
census images on the Internet or on the Smith County microfilm census rolls that are available at the Tyler Public Library and many other large libraries.
Each record on the 1880 Smith County Mortality Schedule contains the deceased person's name, age at last birthday, sex/color, martial status, place of birth, parents' birth places, occupation, month of death, disease or cause of death, length of Smith County residency, state where disease was contacted (if not at place of death), and the attending physician's name.
The book was compiled by the ETGS Computer Interest Group and is dedicated to Nancy Crain.
The cost of this 176 page, soft-cover book is $20.00.
In addition to the 1880 Census Index, ETGS has also published Indexes for the 1850, 1860, 1870, and the 1900 through 1930 Smith County, Texas Censuses. These images can be viewed at our website.
