The East Texas Genealogical Society presents an Advanced DNA Seminar:

Program: “Genetic Genealogy Analysis and Tools: Stepping Up
to the Next Level”

Session Topics:

Session 1: “Genetic Genealogy Today: DNA Inheritance”. A review of genetic genealogy basics such as the inheritance patterns of each type of DNA used for genealogy. This includes an introduction to some of the tools to be illustrated in later sessions.

Session 2: “Genetic Genealogy Company Comparisons”. Information on how to choose a DNA testing company, the pros & cons of each company’s offerings, and the tests available today; “Tools and Applications for mtDNA” . Illustration of a real-life case study using the latest tools and techniques to analyze mitochondrial DNA (passed along the matrilineal line).

Session 3: “Tools and Applications for Y-DNA”. Illustration of a real-life case study using the latest tools and techniques to analyze Y-DNA (passed along the patrilineal line).

Session 4: “Tools and Applications for atDNA”. Illustration of a real-life case study using the latest tools and techniques to analyze autosomal DNA (inherited through all ancestral lines).

Bio of Debbie Parker Wayne, CG, CGL

  • Debbie Parker Wayne is a full-time board-certified genealogist and genealogical lecturer experienced using DNA analysis and traditional techniques for genealogical research. Her DNA research focuses on client projects and on research into her own family project that includes Y DNA, mtDNA, X DNA, and autosomal DNA studies. Her traditional research focuses on Texas, the Southwest, and the Southern U.S. She has performed research for several genealogical television series.
  • Debbie is a Trustee for the BCG Education Fund and the Texas State Genealogical Society’s DNA Project Chair. Her publications include a column on using DNA analysis for genealogical research in NGS Magazine and award-winning articles in writing competitions held by the Dallas Genealogical Society and the International Society of Family History Writers and Editors. She coordinates and teaches comprehensive, interactive genetic genealogy courses teaching how to interpret and apply DNA test results to genealogical research at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP) and the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research (IGHR). Debbie’s lectures and articles simplify the complex biological concepts of genetic genealogy allowing any genealogist to use this technology to solve research problems.
